PLG Nationals Spotlight: Yalla eSports

Another week, another series of PLG Nationals Spotlight, and this time we bring you Yalla eSports, one of the teams that participated in the PLG Nationals with Overwatch Tournament for the UAE, finishing first and qualifying to the Regional Finals after winning against Valour eSports.

Founded by Klaus Kajetski, the club’s project manager started his journey in the gaming industry more than twenty years ago. Fond of the Middle East, he chose the UAE as a place to create a strong and united eSports organization, to be able to compete in local and international tournaments, raising the banner of the Arab world worldwide.

Klaus began to set up the club in the summer of 2016, and Yalla eSports’ Overwatch division has had many achievements since, including first at the ASUS ROG Trials of Champions, the Overwatch GeForce Cup – Middle East & North Africa in February, Middle East Gaming #1, and even reaching the Top 32 in the Overwatch Contenders Season Zero European Qualifier, losing against Ninjas in Pyjamas. Yalla eSports has also different division with players competing in Hearthstone, EA Sports FIFA and currently forming a team for CS: GO.

The Overwatch roster currently consists of Ahmed “dizzy” Alzaabi as DPS, Butti “Celestial” Mejren as DPS, Mohammed “Customed” Alasmawi as Tank, Ali Muthanna “Pause” Hamoodi as Support, and finally Sultan “iPlayboy” Al Meraikhi as Support. These are the same players that will be competing at the PLG Nationals with Overwatch Season Regional Finals,  to try and win a chunk of the $10,000 prize pool.

After asking him about other teams in the region, Klaus believes that Evolve Gaming, Osh TekkWarriors are some of the strongest teams alongside Reflex Esports, which sadly lost their chance to reach the PLG Nationals with Overwatch Season Regional Finals after their defeat against Yalla eSports in the UAE qualifiers.

For Klaus, the field of esports has started to flourish this year, considering that eight months ago, they were some of the first to establish an Overwatch roster in the Middle East, and the community is now filled with many strong teams.
