PLG Nationals Injustice 2 Regional Finalist: Azeez “X-Azeez” Al-Jowder

As we get closer to the PLG Nationals Injustice 2 Championship Series Regional Finals, where the top 8 players from around the region’s numerous qualifier will battle for a prize pool of $5000, we decided to shed the spotlight on our current confirmed finalists, starting with Azeez “Xazeez” Al-Jowder. Qualified from the Online Qualifier, Azeez is known for winning second place in the Mortal Kombat XL Middle East Cup 2016 as well as being a Mortal Kombat XL Cup International Finalist, and now preparing for his biggest Injustice 2 challenge so far.

How are you training for the upcoming regional finals of the PLG Nationals Injustice 2 Tournament Series?

My training regimen will consist of playing offline with Sayed Hashim aka Tekken Master, and his older brothers (Saleh and Abdallah), as well as online against high-ranked players and mainly from the Middle-East group known as NFK (No Frame Knowledge).

How do you pick your characters in the online qualifier and upcoming regional finals?

I picked around 21 characters out of the 30 characters available, switching whenever I feel a certain opposing character is giving trouble, also known as counter picking.

Who are you looking forward to playing against in the regional finals?

Azeez: SharkTeeth [Baraa Madani Aljaadi]… Both Baraa and I have had a friendly rivalry since the Mortal Kombat X days, and has become a good friend of mine. We both believe that we’ll end up competing for the second place at the Regional Finals, since Tekken Master will take the championship.

What was your most memorable moment from the qualifier you competed in?

My comeback from the losers bracket after losing my first game in the tournament first round against Shark Teeth, as well as my match against Malek “MLK2294” Kaawar (Third place of the online qualifier). That match was intense and I had to pick Dr. Fate in the final set game just to win, and counter pick his Batman. His Batman play was unreadable and quite aggressive, perfectly reading my moves, which almost cost me my chance to get out of the loser brackets and reach the grand finals.

Are you confident that you have the skills to represent your country and win in the regional finals?

As of now, I’m confident with my new main which is Brainiac. Plus with the new balance patch update that may get released after EVO 2017, it might give me a bigger chance.

What is the favorite characters in Injustice 2, and your latest competitive gaming accomplishment?

My favorite is Green Lantern, which I like to call Green Bae. If I must list out my biggest personal achievements then it would be beating Emad aka Razor in the Mortal Kombat X Middle East Cup 2015 tournament, as well as winning in a clutch set against Shark Teeth in the loser’s finals of the 2016 Mortal Kombat X Middle East Cup.

While three different qualifiers may have ended, the fight is far from over, with the upcoming UAE Live Qualifier. Registration is live right now on our website (coming soon this month of July), and is your last chance to reach one of the last 2 spots in the regional finals. For all the latest information about the PLG Nationals Injustice 2 Tournament Series, you can follow us on on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, as well as the official or you can also click here to visit the dedicated PLG Nationals Injustice 2 Tournament Series page.
