These terms and conditions (the “Rules”) constitute the agreement between each Entrant (as defined below) and Power League Gaming FZ LLC (the “Promoter”) in relation to the Mortal Kombat XL ‘MKXLCup’ Tournament (the “Tournament”).

There are three stages to the Tournament: the “National Tournament”, the “EMEA Final” and the “EVO Championship”. The winner and runner-up of the National Tournament (“National Winner” and “Runner-Up“) will receive a “National Prize” and “Runner-Up Prize”. The winner of the EMEA Tournament (the “EMEA Winner”) will receive the “EMEA Prize”, as defined below in paragraph 7. Please note that, in accordance with paragraph 6, your signature of the terms and conditions of a third party will be required in order for you to participate in either the EMEA Final or the EVO Championship.

1. Entry details

The MKXLCup Tournament is a competition to determine the most skillful Mortal Kombat XL videogame players. Entrants (as defined below) will compete against each other in a series of game matches. The Tournament is open to those who are aged eighteen (18) years or over only.

  1. By signing these Rules you agree to be bound by them. If you do not sign these Rules you may not participate in the Tournament. This Tournament is limited to one entry per person.
  1. To enter the Tournament, you must register with Promoter staff at the venue at which the Tournament is being staged or pre-register online on www.powerleaguegaming.com before the 7th of April 2016, at midnight (Dubai time). Registration of entrants will occur on a first come first served basis (each such registrant an “Entrant”, together the “Entrants”).

2. National Tournament

  1. The National Tournament is open to residents or nationals of the following countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, UAE and Yemen. The Rules and Appendix A (the “Etiquette Guide”) apply to Entrants in the National Tournament. The Etiquette Guide is incorporated into the Rules and is provided for the purposes of providing guidance on player conduct.
  2. Entrants who reach the National Tournament will be drawn against one another by the Promoter in the Promoter’s sole discretion in accordance with the Etiquette Guide and the until only one Entrant remains. Such remaining Entrant shall be the National Winner.

3. The National Prize awarded to the National Winner runner-up shall be:

  • A place to compete in the “EMEA Final”, to be held at the ‘Dreamhack’ event held from June 18th, 2016 to June 21st, 2016 at the Elmia exhibition centre, Jönköping, Sweden (“Dreamhack”);
  • Reasonable accommodation and travel arrangements for the National Tournament Winner and one (1) guest aged eighteen (18) or over to Dreamhack (not exceeding a total cost of £500); and
  • the MKX Cup Championship Belt as well as the sum of 2000 Euros in cash to be given via bank transfer

4. The prize for the National runner-up shall be:

  • A place to compete in the “EMEA Final”, to be held at the ‘Dreamhack’ event held from June 18th, 2016 to June 21st, 2016 at the Elmia exhibition centre, Jönköping, Sweden (“Dreamhack”);
  • Reasonable accommodation and travel arrangements for the National Tournament Winner and one (1) guest aged eighteen (18) or over to Dreamhack (not exceeding a total cost of £500); and
  • A cash prize of 1000 Euros to be given via bank transfer

5. The “EMEA Final Prize” awarded to the winner of the EMEA Final (in Sweden) shall be:

i. A cash prize of ten thousand Euros (€10,000).
ii.An invite to compete in the “EVO Championship” held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada between July 15th 2016 and July 17th 2016; and
iii. Reasonable accommodation and travel arrangements and one (1) guest aged eighteen (18) or over to the EVO Championship.

The runner-up of the EMEA Final will be awarded a cash prize of three thousand Euros (€3,000).
The third place finalist of the EMEA Final will be awarded a cash prize of one thousand Euros (€1,000)

6. Please note that the EMEA Final will be organized by Warner Bros. Entertainment Sverige AB of Solna Torg 19, Box 1472, 171 28 Solna, Sweden (“Warner”). The EVO Championship will be organized by SRKX Productions LLC or its affiliated corporations. Each National Winner, and the EMEA Winner, may be required to sign a separate set of written terms and conditions in order to compete in the EMEA Final and/or the EVO Championship. Whilst entrants are not obliged to sign such terms and conditions, failure to do so will prevent the National Winner’s participation in the EMEA Final and/or the EVO Championship.

7. General

The National Prize and the EMEA Final Prize (each a “Prize”) are subject to availability and can be withdrawn or varied without notice. Prizes are as stated and are non-transferable. No cash alternatives are available where a cash prize is not otherwise provided.

Entrants are solely responsible for compliance with any applicable local travel laws and immigration requirements including any relevant passport and visa requirements in order to travel to compete in the EMEA Final and/or the EVO Championship.

The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify, in its sole discretion, any Entrant who breaches these Rules or is guilty of cheating, inappropriate behavior or any other misconduct.

The National Winner (a “Winner” will be notified that they have won either on the day of such Tournament event in person at the applicable venue or within fourteen (14) days by email (the “Notification”). The Promoter will make the Winner aware of any reasonable arrangements for the redemption of the Prizes. In the event that a Winner does not accept a Prize within two (2) days of the Notification, the Winner will forfeit their rights to the Prize.

10. The Promoter reserves the right to make reasonable alternative arrangements, including but not limited to selecting another Entrant to participate in the Tournament and/or awarding a Prize, or part of a Prize to a runner up, in the event that:

i. A Winner does not accept a Prize within the prescribed time;

ii. An Entrant is disqualified in accordance with paragraph 10; or

iii. An Entrant is unable to compete in the Tournament, the EMEA Final or the EVO Championship for any reason.

If an Entrant is unable to participate in the EMEA Final or EVO Championship for a reason outside of that Entrant’s control, the Promoter reserves the right to reallocate the Prize to another Entrant.

11. Nothing in these Rules shall limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud, fraudulent misstatement or fraudulent misrepresentation. We will not be liable to you for any loss or damage which you suffer as a result of your use of services or goods which was not (i) foreseeable by you and us at the time you accepted these Rules; and (ii) caused by a breach of these Rules. We are not responsible for indirect losses or damages which occur as a side effect of the main loss or damage and which are not foreseeable by you (such as loss of opportunity).We will also not be liable to you for any loss or damage which you suffer in respect of which there is no breach of a legal duty of care owed by us to you, or where the loss or damage results from breach by you of these Rules.

12. The Promoter may want to film, photograph or otherwise record Entrants at any stage of the Tournament and by any means. Entrants shall be deemed to give the Promoter, and its associated companies, licensees and assigns permission to undertake such recording and to:

(i) Edit, alter, reproduce, publish and distribute any such photographs, recordings and films or anything derived from them (the “Material”) in any medium; and

(ii) Use the Material, in whole or in part, for any purposes it deems necessary to promote, advertise or exploit the products of the Promoter and/or its associated companies, licensees and assigns, and anything connected with or derived from them in perpetuity and throughout the universe.

Entrants also agree to irrevocably waive any moral rights or droit moral that they may have in the Material and to release the Promoter and its associated companies, licensees and assigns from any claims for payment or other consideration whatsoever in connection with their use of the Material.

13. In the event of unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of the Promoter which means that the Tournament, or any part of the Tournament, is not capable of running as planned, the Promoter reserves the right to substitute or amend any or all parts of the Tournament. In this event, such a change will be publicised and any necessary amendments to these Terms and Conditions will be made.

14. Any personal data which you provide to the Promoter will be used solely for the purpose of administering the Tournament and contacting the Winners regarding the Prizes. All personal data will be used in accordance with the Promoter’s standard privacy policy at [insert link to your privacy policy, if available], copies of which are available from Promoter staff at the venues. Entrants give their consent to the Promoter sharing such personal data with Warner, and Warner’s affiliate companies and agents, as may be necessary for the purposes of arranging and administering the EMEA Final and the EVO Championship.

15. If any court of competent authority decides that any of the provisions of these Rules are invalid, unlawful or unenforceable to any extent, the Rule will, to that extent only, be severed from the remaining Rules, which will continue to be valid.

16. These Rules, the conduct of the Tournament and the interpretation and enforcement of these Rules will be exclusively governed and construed in accordance with the laws of United Arab Emirates and be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the United Arab Emirates.

17. The Tournament is not open to employees or contractors of the Promoter, Promoter’s agents, including each of their affiliates, subsidiaries, divisions, or any person directly or indirectly involved in the organization or running of the Competition or their direct family members.

Appendix A

Etiquette Guide

Tournament Prize

The Middle East Finals of the Mortal Kombat XL Cup will award two prizes :

  • First prize winner will win the MKX Cup Championship Belt, the sum of 2000 Euros in cash, but also travel and accommodation to take part in the European Mortal Kombat XL Cup Final taking place at Dreamhack in Jönköping, Sweden (on the 18th-21st June).
  • Second prize winner will win the sum of 1000 Euros in cash, but also travel and accommodation to take part in the European Mortal Kombat XL Cup Final taking place at Dreamhack in Jönköping, Sweden (on the 18th-21st June).

All cash-prize winners need to have valid bank accounts with ability to receive the prize via bank transfer, for legal and auditing records.

Participant Rules

Players participating in this tournament need to be strictly 18 years old of age or above, holding a valid passport (with more than 6 month before expiration), and are residents or nationals of the following countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, UAE and Yemen.

For example: A German national residing in the UAE under legal residency visa can participate / a French national on a tourist visa in the UAE cannot participate (citizen qualifiers will only admit UAE Nationals or people with UAE Residency visa stamped to their passports). No special case will be made regarding age or residency for participants

Valid passport is mandatory, to be able to fly to Sweden for the European Finals, an potentially the United States of America for EVO 2016. The Champion and Runner-up are the sole responsible entity of procuring a valid passport and visa for his flight to Sweden and the United States of America.

Denial for a visa to Sweden or the United States of America is not the responsibility of the Power League Gaming, Warner Bros. Entertainment and each of their respective parents (if applicable), subsidiaries, affiliates, employees, officers, directors, advertising and promotion agencies, including each of the foregoing identified entities’ respective parents, subsidiaries and affiliates.

Flights and accommodations to the European Finals are prizes given by Warner Bros. Entertainment for the Middle East Champion. If the winner or runner-up was denied for any instance of an entry visa to Sweden or the United States of America, the value of the flights and accommodations to those countries will not be reimbursed

Tournament Rules

The tournament is made up of a Single Elimination bracket until a usual top 16, which will become a double-elimination bracket (unless stated otherwise)

By entering any event you make a commitment to play fairly and in accordance with the rules. All players are asked to behave humanely towards other competitors and members of the Tournament administration team. Please read the following general guidance on fair play and the tournament format.

Grounds for 

  1. Insults during a match or at any stage in the Tournament may lead to disqualification
  2. The following severe incidents may also lead to disqualification: extremist statements, threats of violence, sexual harassment, stalking, severe insults and displaying pornographic or offensive material
  3. Excessive annoying or offensive contributions within the Tournament is considered as spamming. Spamming can lead to your disqualification
  4. All forms of cheating in the Tournament is forbidden and may lead to disqualification

Games and Matches

  • Each game consists of best of 3 in-game rounds, on versus mode. On average a game will last for 3 minutes.
  • Each match consists of 3 games. On average a match will last for 15 minutes.

Picks

  1. Each match will begin by one player picking a character and a character variation
  2. The first player to pick should be decided randomly using an appropriate method by the Tournament organizer
  3. After the first player has picked and the second player has begun character and variation pick, the first player may not change selection
  4. Any map maybe selected by each player.  If each player picks different maps, the game will choose a map at random automatically
  5. Subsequently, the winner of the previous game in a match will pick first.
  6. From the second match round, the players that picked first in the previous round should pick second where possible
  7. After each game in a match, the players must return to character select

Double Elimination – Best of 16

The Final 16 Tournament will be run as a Double Elimination system which will work as follows (unless stated otherwise):

  • Players will be matched against opponents randomly or in special cases (such as a pre-existing leader boards or online qualifiers) the Tournament may be seeded differently.
  • Players will progress through their games, with winners remaining in the Upper Bracket and losers falling to the Lower Bracket. Once you lose a game in the Lower Bracket you are eliminated from the tournament.
  • The Grand Final will take place between the winner of the Upper Bracket Final, and the winner of the Lower Bracket final (also sometimes referred to as a Consolation Final). The person qualifying from the Upper Bracket will need to win just one Best of 3 to win. The person qualifying from the Lower Bracket will need to win two consecutive Best of 3’s to be crowned champion.
  • The game does not allow tie breakers and will automatically time out after 90 seconds and the winner will be determined by who has the most heath remaining.

Pausing

Each player has the ability to the pause the game to check control move commands.  This is allowed but not excessively at the discretion of the Tournament organizer.  Excessive pausing may lead to loss of game or no score.

Filming and other terms and conditions:

  • We may revise these terms and conditions from time to time. Last update has been made on 3rd of April 2016.
  • Any personal data relating to the entrants will be used in accordance with the data protection laws and regulations and will not be disclosed to a third party without the entrants’ prior consent.
  • During each event, pictures and videos might be captured. By joining the tournament, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions, and also agreeing that PLG and its partners will have permission to use any footage taken in the event for private or public reasons
